Mumbai: Three lakh students will be taking the IIT Joint Entrance Exam (IIT-JEE) on Sunday, which is the first big competitive exam after the announcement of 27 per cent quota for Other Backward Classes (OBC) in premier higher education institutes.
With a record number of students taking the exam, the pressure is mounting.
And if jostling for space wasn’t enough, over the last few years the structure of the IIT-JEE has also changed considerably.
For one, it's simpler because of its conversion into an objective paper. Second, it now consists of just two three-hour-long papers instead of the earlier structure of three papers of two hours each.
However, the experts say students can breathe easy as the pattern of the paper will remain the same.
“One question definitely from each chapter can definitely be expected. As far is weightage is concerned, in Physics, you can put more emphasis on mechanics and current electricity magnetism. In Maths, calculus is very important. In Chemistry, like organic chemistry, you can always focus on reaction mechanism and in Physical Chemistry few chapters like adequate equilibrium electro-chemistry, thermodynamics, etc,” DGM Career Launcher Suman Prakash advises IIT aspirants.
For some students, the IIT-JEE serves as practice for other exams like the All India Engineering Entrance Examination (AIEEE), while for others a good score in this exam will become their ticket to premier technology institutes across the country.
