New Delhi: The Hyderabad Police have detained a man in connection with the Mecca Masjid blast that rocked the mosque last Friday.
Shohaib Jagirdar, a resident of Jalna in Maharashtra, was picked up by police on Friday morning. Three people have already been detained in connection with the blast.
The Hyderabad Police believe that the Bangladesh-based terror group, Harkat-ul-Jihad Al Islami (HUJI), is behind the attack.
A team of the Hyderabad Police department visited Kolkata earlier this week to probe the link between Mohammad Shahid alias Bilal, an alleged member of the HUJI and a suspect in the blast, and Sheikh Sameer, the prime accused in last year's Mumbai train blasts.
Bilal is also wanted for the blasts on the Samjhauta Express. He took over the command of HUJI on October 12, 2005, and has been on the list of most wanted terrorists. He is believed to be in Karachi at present and is also said to be working for the Lashker-e-Toiba.
Meanwhile, the Andhra Pradesh government has ordered a CBI probe into the incident.
Eleven people were killed in the explosion that occurred during Friday prayers while five more died when police fired on protesters who attacked shops and petrol pumps in the communally-sensitive Charminar area.
