Thirteen people were killed, including five in police firing after a bomb ripped through one of the city's oldest mosques during Friday prayers in Hyderabad. Union home minister Shivraj Patil and the chief minister YSR Reddey are now trying to pacify the victims’ families.
“We are sorry about it. We are aware that the people who died were from poor families. We will give government jobs to relatives of all those who have died,” said Chief Minister YSR Reddy.
The Muslim community now wants a CBI enquiry into the police firing and the bomb blasts case. The state government and the union home ministry is considering their demand. “If a CBI enquiry is what the state government and the people want then we have no problems with it. We will decide that after considering the various aspects of the case,” said Union Home minister Shivraj Patil.
The innocent killings in police firing have become an embarrassment for the state government. As the authorities try to negate the anger of the Muslim community, they are also desperately trying to identify those behind the blast. The home minister did not have many answers on the investigations but he did see a pattern in the attack on places of worship.
“There is pattern but we cannot jump to any conclusions on whether these were perpetrated by the same people,” said Patil.
A day after the blast it's the subsequent police firing that's aggravated the Muslim community's anger it's perhaps the fall out of that firing that the state government will have to contend with in the coming days.
