Hyderabad: Fifteen people are feared dead and another 20 injured after an under-construction flyover collapsed in Hyderabad on Sunday.
Amandeep Singh, one of the many victims of the flyover collapse, was returning from the airport when the flyover collapsed on top of his car.
“I really don’t know what happened. We were passing from that Central mall. I don’t remember anything after that. When I gained consciousness, I found myself in some house. And there were some ladies who were rubbing ice on my head, and I was rushed to this hospital,” says Amandeep.
The flyover collapsed in the city’s busy Panjagutta area near Nagarjuna Circle. Stretching from the Banjara Hills to Panjagutta area the flyover ends right in front of Chief Minister's house.
It was under construction for the past one and a half year and was suppose to be inaugurated this December.
The flyover ends very close to the Chief Minister YSR Reddy's house. A couple of months ago when the CM had inspected the flyover he very clearly mentioned that the construction was not upto its mark.
“From the beginning from the last three and a half years we have been warning the government. There is substandard work that has been going on. It seems the government is working for the contractors and not the people. The flyover has collapsed after one rain,” former CM, Chandrababu Naidu said.
Panjagutta is one of the busiest areas in Hyderabad. And the collapse had virtually brought the area to a standstill making the rescue operations even more difficult.
Despite the ambulances reaching on time there were cases where people could not reach the hospital on time because of the slow movement of the traffic on the road.
