Hyd govt says it was forewarned

Hyderabad: The sanctity of a mosque in prayer was shattered on Friday with the tool of terror.

A powerful crude bomb went off in the courtyard of Hyderabad's Mecca Masjid killing many people assembled there for Friday prayers. Police later diffused two other live bombs found within the premises.

Andhra Pradesh CM, YSR Reddy has said, "This is the work of elements who are trying to create tension between people of different communities."

Even as the police tried to maintain peace, it had to face stone pelting from an angry mob.

Police then had to resort to lathi charge and firing in the air to disperse the crowd.

Despite the chaos, the government has said that they had put adequate precautions in place as they already had intelligence reports warning them of the blast.

Even the home secretary of Andhra Pradesh has said that there was "no lapse in security".

Hyderabad is now under high alert, though authorities claim the situation is under control.

Says Joint Commissioner of Hyderabad Police, Harish Gupta, said, "Rescue operations are going on. Hyderabad city is on high alert. We have enough force and we do not need to mobilise forces from other parts of Hyderabad. The situation is under control."
