Hyderabad baby mauled to death

New Delhi: The canine menace was back to haunt the citizens of Hyderabad as a six-month-old baby boy was mauled to death by stray dogs.

The six-month-old's father Ranjith Singh, a washer man, informed that he had left the baby sleeping under a tree and within minutes found him seriously injured by stray dogs in the area.

The Municipal Corporation authorities say that they have been monitoring the stray dog situation very closely and are doing the best to avoid such unfortunate incidents.

The dog menace has been on the rise in Karnataka, Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh in the past few months. Two children died in Bangalore after being attacked by stray dogs. Similar cases have also been reported from Mumbai and Chennai.

TN govt gears up
Following complaints received from the public, the Tamil Nadu government has passed a government order to implement animal birth control in five corporations and 50 municipalities across Tamil Nadu.

The proposed programme will be carried out at an estimated cost of Rs 5.8 crore, for which the state has asked for funds from the animal welfare board of India.

Bangalore braces up
The Bangalore Mahanagar Palike has introduced 25 new vans to fight the stray dog menace. The government has made an allocation of Rs 1 crore this year for the programme.
