New Delhi: The Andhra Pradesh police on Sunday claimed major breakthrough in Hyderabad twin blasts case when they booked 15 persons and also confirmed that Bangladesh-based terror outfit Harkat-ul-Jehadi Islami was involved in the attacks that killed 44 people.
Among those charged is Shahid Bilal – suspected to be the mastermind behind the coordinated bombings that rocked Hyderabad last Saturday. He has been booked for conspiracy.
"We have arrested HUJI members for conspiracy. Yes, RDX used in the blasts was brought from Bangladesh," city police commissioner Balwinder Singh.
Others booked include Sheikh Abdul Naeem – based on whose confessions the police have framed charges – Asif, Amjad, Khalim, Rashid and Habib-ul-Haq.
Naeem has been booked for purchasing SIM cards that were used by the conspirators to coordinate among themselves and smuggling RDX into the country.
Naeem reportedly claimed that 1kg of RDX was smuggled into the city to execute the blasts.
Based on Naeem's confession, Shoaib Jagirdar , who was earlier arrested in connection with the Mecca Masjid blast, has been arrested again. He was earlier released on bail on Friday.
What is HuJI?
Osama bin Laden set up the Harkat-ul-Jihad Islami or HuJI in his war against the Soviets in Afghanistan drawing Muslim fighters from all over the world. This is where the HuJI-B or HuJI Bangladesh was born and bloodied.
Today, HuJI-B is headed by the Shawkat Osman and his number two Imtiaz Quddus. Shauqat Osman is known to have links with bin Laden and Ayman Zawahiri.
With a cadre strength of around 15,000 HuJI's goal is to establish an Islamic state in Bangladesh. Their camps in Bangladesh are in the Chittagong hills, bordering Myanmar.
Sources say HuJI also has active links with insurgent groups in the North East, especially the ULFA.
