Hyderabad: Hyderabad's favourite laser show at Lumbini Park is back in business. A target of the twin blasts that shook the city last year, it now boasts close circuit TVs and security guards. There are six CCTV cameras, one at each entrance.
The seven acre park, earlier manned by two guards, now has over 35 ex-army personnel to frisk each visitor. The park has extra fencing as an added measure.
“Apart from these CCTV cameras also, security check is also there. Only after that the person will enter. Checking is must, there is no exception for anybody,” says Deputy estate officer Gopalkrishna.
Even the second target of the blasts, Gokul Chaat Bhandar, doesn’t take its security for granted. All the customers walk through a door frame metal detector and each is frisked.
“For security we have put door frame metal detector, metal detector handsets and security guards and even personally we keep checking people and keep an eye on everyone so that there is no problem in the future,” says Gokul Chaat Bhandar owner Prem Chand.
Close circuit cameras top the Mecca Masjid, targetted in May last year. There are more right opposite, on the historic Charminar but the scrutiny seems to have stopped at Hyderabad's terror targets.
Unmanned entrances, unequipped personnel show up at the main railway stations and bus stops. The few policemen on duty can't do a thorough frisking when crowds are large. The officials say that it is a gradual process and the city's security system is being overhauled.
Though the security at terror targets like - Lumbini Park, Gokul Chaat or even the Mecca Masjid seem to be in place, a recent incident involving firing on the streets has got the citizens questioning the police's reassurance once again. But this time personal vigilance seems to be the call of the hour.
