Hyderabad is India's graft capital: Kiran Bedi

Hyderabad: Team Anna member Kiran Bedi has described Hyderabad as the capital of country’s corruption. Kiran Bedi, before addressing a public meeting on Anna Hazare’s anti-graft movement, told reporters here on Wednesday that when she arrived in Hyderabad she got a message that she had reached the corrupt capital of the country.

She was shocked to know that Rs 15,000 per vote was distributed by political parties in the recent bypolls. “This is a matter of serious concern,” she said.Kiran Bedi, however, did not answer any questions on YS Jagan Mohan Reddy’s disproportionate assets case. Asked about the corruption in the state, she wondered what the media and people were doing when a lot of corruption was taking place in the state.

She said Anna Hazare would launch an indefinite fast on July 25 in Delhi for an effective Lok Pal. She said that Gopal, Arvind Kejriwal and other Team Anna members would also participate in the fast.

She alleged that as many 14 Cabinet ministers in the Union Cabinet were facing corruption charges and 62 Lok Sabha and 39 Rajya Sabha members were also facing various charges including criminal, she said and demanded that all these cases should be investigated by Special Investigation Team. She also demanded fast track courts to be set up for speedy trial in graft cases.

Pranab Mukherjee, whose name was doing rounds for Presidential candidate, was also listed in the 14 corrupt ministers by the Anna team. Asked whether she would oppose Pranab’s candidature, Kiran Bedi said she would not reply to speculative questions. However his name was not yet finalised, she added.
