Hyd police make CD to create safety awareness

Hyderabad: The Hyderabad police has taken several steps to ensure public safety in the wake of last year’s twin blasts.

Five months after Hyderabad was torn apart by the twin blasts and many crude bombs later, the city police have released a 20 minutes-long film.

Titled Meri Jaan Hyderabad, the film aims to create awareness among people.

"This film will be screened in all bus stations, in all railway stations, in all entertainment centres and in all theatres as well. We hope that all citizens will watch this short film and report any suspicious activities to the police,” says DCP (Crime) Prasad

It may be that hope is all that they can do, for the CD just may not have any takers.

“I don't have time to listen to a radio announcement; I am not going to watch a documentary,” says one Hyderabadi, while another thinks watching a documentary is boring

“It's a good thing that the police did, but I don't have time to watch it,” says another denizen.

The film showcases instances when people should contact the police where suspicious activity is noticed but that is where lies the real problem.

Within a week of the August 25th blasts, the police had received as many as 11 bomb hoax calls and over the last five months, the number has increased exponentially.

120 bomb scares in a span of five months and the police are urging people to report more but have they adequate resources to action every call? With only 10 of the 20 bomb squads having sniffer dogs at their disposal, at present, the answer remains no.
