Mumbai: India’s retail industry would like you to shop till you drop and is leaving nothing to chance in its effort to grab the bigger share of the booming market.
Hypercity, a one lakh-square-feet store, which has opened its doors in Mumbai, is the latest to join this retail boom.
Hypercity is proud of its 'foreign maal, desi price' concept that its market is trying capitalise on.
Just like the K Raheja Group's other retail chain, Shopper's Stop, this 24-crore-rupee mall stocks several imported goods, giving it an international feel.
"We wanted to add on volume; a lot of products you see here actually add on to very large retailers around the world. We wanted to give the best range from international environment because Indian customers want that at an Indian price," says BS Nagesh, vice-chairman of Hypercity Retail.
Hypercity offers twelve categories of products, including homeware and furniture, which Nagesh hopes will boost overall spends and bring higher margins.
He hopes to have half-a-dozen such stores up and running by December 2008.
