Otis had set his conditions to the Indian government if they want the belongings of Mahatma Gandhi. However, Minister Of State External Affairs Anand Sharma has said that the govt will not deal with Otis anymore.
CNN-IBN: Has the Indian ministry been able to get though the man who has been putting this auction or the US state or have diplomats given up hope?
Anand Sharma: We appeal to the good sense of Mr James Otis. He respects Mahtma Gandhi.
CNN-IBN: Mr Otis has been in touch with the Indian consulate there, and he has given two conditions, tell us how would Indian government plans to respond to that?
Anand Sharma: Gandhi himself would not have agreed to the conditions. Government of India who has to protect the soverignity of the people cannot entail to such conditions.
CNN-IBN: Do you think you can talk to the auctioneers themselves, the auction house and negotiate? Is that the root you are trying to follow?
Anand Sharma: I am optimistic that James Otis will respect the sentiments and also the memories of Mahatma Gandhi. monetary gains is not the issue, but Mahatma Gandhi's values should not be violated.
CNN-IBN: What do you think will happen, if Otis does not listen to India's plea today, what if the belongings never come back?Anand Sharma: It will come back.
