In an exclusive interview with CNN-IBN's Karan Thapar on Devil's Advocate , External Affairs Minister Pranab Mukherjee said he believed in the sincerity of Pakistani President Asif Ali Zardari and his colleagues as individuals. However, he was still waiting for the Pakistan government to take the right action regarding the Mumbai terror attacks.
Pranab placed his faith in President Zardari and said he believed in his sincerity, as he is a victim of terror himself.
Karan Thapar: Every time President Zardari speaks in interviews or makes statements - he says things which sound reassuring, do you see him as sincere, or is this just rhetoric and words?
Pranab Mukherjee: No, he is a nice man, he's a gentleman. Gillani, Qureshi are gentlemen, but what I would like to say is that I believe in his sincerity because he is himself a victim of terror attack.
Pranab said though he trusted President Zardari, the Pakistani government hasn't done much to back this trust.
Karan: So you mean that you believe in his sincerity?
Pranab Mukherjee: I believe his desire to fight against terrorism, but at the same time my belief is not adequate, it must be backed by action taken by the government and authorities of Pakistan.
