New Delhi: Director Vidhu Vinod Chopra's 2007 offering Eklavya - The Royal Guard is all set to join the Big Oscar party as India's official entry.
The film features Amitabh Bachchan, who plays the pivotal role of 'Eklavya' - a guard protecting the kings of Devigarh, Saif Ali Khan, Sanjay Dutt and Vidya Balan.
Vidhu Vinod Chopra's multi-starrer took lead from films like Chak de India, Guru and Gandhi My Father to represent India in the foreign film category.
This is the third time that a Chopra film will be going to the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences. His previous two include a short non-fiction film, An Encounter with Faces and 1989's Parinda. Also, last year, Chopra's Lage Raho Munnabhai was sent as an independent entry for the same.
Cinematic splendour some may say but a host of people from the industry are not convinced that the movie fits the bill.
"May be there were some movies in regional cinema that we don’t know about. We are living in the Bollyowod pond and picking out movies from there. I haven’t seen all the films, but I don't think Eklavya is an exceptional film,” says filmmaker Farah Khan.
