She impressed the jury and the crowds at Johannesburg with her grace and wit and the crown was within reaching distance but she had to contend with being the first runner up, Parvathy Omanakuttan is now back in India and is joins CNN-IBN from Mumbai.
Here is an excerpt of the interview -
CNN-IBN: How has life been for you over the last few days?
Parvathy: Mixed emotion going through my mind. i was very disappointed that day. Seeing the reaction from the people made me feel much much better and i have no words to thank the amount of support people have given me around the world.
CNN-IBN: There was a quote attributed to you about the jury being unfair to you but we really believe that the Q&A round was a bit pedestrian for you as a literature student, were you disappointed?
Parvathy: Not really because on that stage even if you ask a simple question it can be challenging. It only depends on how you perceive it. On that day when I was asked the question I was dead confident that I am going to win because I felt I performed my best that day.
CNN-IBN: This brings us to the obvious question now, will you be joining Bollywood?
Parvathy: Well, I have been haunted with this question since Miss India and I have always answered saying that if good offers come I will certainly consider them.
CNN-IBN: How good is your Hindi? You are from Kerala, come on a dialogue from a Hindi film.
Parvathy: Well yes, but you know now that you have asked me to speak from a film I can't really think of any dialogue but if you can prompt me.
CNN-IBN: We’ll let that be for a while but CNN-IBN has a huge viewership in Kerala where we are certainly delighted to see a Malayalee girl to go and get so close to the Miss World crown. Is there something you want to tell our viewers in Kerala preferably in Malayalam?
Parvathy: I just want to say I come from a middle class family but certainly not from a conservative family because that is what people usually think when you talk about south India. I would like to thank my parents, my loved ones who have given me complete support in whatever I have decided to do.
