New York: Legendary actor Jack Nicholson has revealed that he 'warned' Heath Ledger about the role of the Joker in Batman movies.
Ledger, who was found dead in his New York apartment on Jan 22, believed that grabbing the coveted role of the Joker was a dream come true for him.
However, now some think that the character was a nightmare that led to his tragic death, reports the New York Daily News.
Nicholson, who played the Joker in 1989, offered a cryptic comment when photographers told him that Ledger’s death might have been caused by an overdose.
"Well. I warned him,” Nicholson told the reporters.
Although the comment was vague, people believe that the role took a frightening toll on the Brokeback Mountain star.
Ledger recently told reporters he "slept an average of two hours a night" while playing "a psychopathic, mass-murdering, schizophrenic clown with zero empathy.”
"I couldn't stop thinking. My body was exhausted, and my mind was still going,” he said.
He also revealed that prescription drugs didn't help him calm down. Police say they found a string of prescription and non-prescription drugs in the Manhattan apartment where Ledger was found dead by a maid on Jan 22.
