I was a brat, my kids aren't, says Kajol

Since the birth of her second child with hubby Ajay Devgn, Kajol has been a break. "Yeah, I've had so many breaks," chirps the feisty actress when we meet her over a cup of coffee at Devgn's office in Juhu. In fact, she goes on to add that a break every now and then makes life all the more interesting. A quick Q and A with Kajol...

You're said to be the stricter parent. Apparently Ajay doesn’t like you scolding the kids when he’s at home since he is away for work so much.

I have to be strict because I’m more of an ‘at home’ parent. When Jay (Ajay) is around, it’s playtime. Our kids are used to me in his absence.

Seeing them grow up, what do you recall of your own childhood?

I feel very bad for my mother, granny, aunts and uncles. I was much more of a brat than my kids are. Of course, I was an angel when my mom was around; then I was a monster, a cute lovable monster.

Since you were a brat, ever told your kids how you shook the ground from under the feet of your family around?

No way I’m telling my daughter I was a brat. And she’s not reading the paper to know it either (laughs). When I was a child, earthquakes were part of our routine life. I’d get whacked every day.

Tell us something about Nysa playing elder didi to Yug.

Nysa is a special child. The way her mind works is amazing. In this (matter) she’s like Jay, thinking from every side of a situation. She’s not friendly and won’t say Hi. She’ll wait a day or so, while all the information is processing through her mind. Personality types, she’s different from Yug, who’s very friendly and will say hello to even strangers in the lift. Nysa’s very protective of Yug. When I ask her whom she loves more, she thinks and says it’s me. But I know.

At one time, you were said to be fiery and intimidating.

I'm still like that. Ha ha.. I’m a better person today. Though a little more intolerant of certain things, my patience level has gone up as far as other things are concerned.

Your fans look forward to your movies. But you do such few movies that the time between two releases is a break in itself.

It’s good fun. I need to enjoy my time off. It helps all the better so people can enjoy watching me on screen again after a gap.
