CNN-IBN's Digvijay Singh Deo caught up with Leander Paes to speak about India's chances of winning gold in three events at the Asian Games.
Digvijay Singh Deo: It's freezing cold out here in Doha but as far as the Indian tennis contingent is concerned, it is all set for 'Operation Desert Storm'. I have with me Leander Paes who has made it into two finals. Leander, the Indians have made it to three finals, which means a lot of expectations from you now.
Leander Paes: Well really, we just have to concentrate on another day at the office tomorrow. We have had a hard day today and we need to recover well for that and play well tomorrow.
Digvijay Singh Deo: When you were on court with Mahesh (Bhupathi), you didn't need to bring your A-game to the court because you really steam rolled through the opposition. So, do you think you are looking good on that front?
Leander Paes: We played really well today and especially with the way we started off this whole campaign at the Asian Games, I was very concerned about the way the doubles was going. Over the last few days of practice, things have gotten sharper and today was one of our better matches out there. So, we are happy about the way we played, but tomorrow we have to come out again, we are playing a tough team in the Thailand boys. They are twins, they know their games very well. They are a good team out there, they serve and volley very well. So we have to come out and play our best game tomorrow.
Digvijay Singh Deo: And the Leander-Sania magic continues. It was exhilarating to watch you guys out there. The first set was brilliant, bit of an up and down in the second, but in the third, vintage Leander pumping up the team and the entire got crowd behind you.
Leander Paes: Yes, the energy that Sania Mirza carries is really nice on the court, and it really showed out there in the third set today. All thanks to all the Indian fans in the stadium for supporting us and keeping the energy going. But I must say that Sania did an excellent job today at the office. She came out and beat the top seed in the singles, and then we came out and won the mixed doubles in three (sets). So, all in all a great day for Indian tennis here in Doha and we hope for three golds tomorrow.
