CNN-IBN's Rohit Khilnani caught up with Wake Up Sid producer Karan Johar and asked him about his latest venture, as well as the new director making his debut with the film.

CNN-IBN: Are you nervous as a producer because the director of Wake Up Side, Ayaan is a first timer and he is just 25 years old?

Karan Johar: My nervousness is no difference from the release of any of my films, or any films that I have produced. The fact that he is 25 and has not directed any film before is not really a point of nervousness for me. I have always invested a certain kind of faith in him. From the very moment when he walked into my office - he worked with me on Kabhi Alvida Na Kehna - I knew that he had the spark, a spirit, talent and a ticking brain. I have invested in these always.

CNN-IBN: Today Ayaan is your director so does that mean once you have assisted Karan Johar, you get to direct a film with him?

Karan Johar: No. I do choose my assistant director teams very carefully because if you are in my team, I should be able to teach you something and learn from you as well and you should be a part of the company, not just do one film and be on your way out. I don't believe in that. People who come in, I should have a vision for them as well.

CNN-IBN: Wake Up Sid looks very young and nice in the promos. You tell us about it.

Karan Johar: Wake Up Sid is a coming of age story. It's Ranbir's execution of Sid that makes it even more special. It's his pairing up with Konkana which is considered unconventional and different from usual pairings. Her coupled with Ranbir's energy, potraying this young coming of age urban boy story, could make Wake Up Sid interesting not only to youngsters but also their parents.

CNN-IBN: At any point in your life were you like Sid?

Karan Johar: I was definitely confused so I may have been that, but I was nothing like what Sid looks like - I was too fat to be lost because I could easily be found. But I definitely was at career crossroads. There was this toss up between taking a business path or doing the creative thing.

CNN-IBN: So we can safely say that every guy at some point has been like Sid?

Karan Johar: I totally believe that. In a certain urban, homegrown way, a lot of Sids exist around us. Someone my age may even say, 'Hey I was Sid and thank God I came through' or that 'I regret I didn't come through'.
