I was never Beckham's enemy at Real: Figo

Goal.com

New Delhi: Inter Milan midfielder Luis Figo has moved to distance himself from rumours which suggested he and Milan star David Beckham were enemies when they were both team-mates at Real Madrid.

With the Milan derby just over a week away, the atmosphere is becoming heated. Figo may even find himself playing against Beckham during that game. Recently, a number of papers carried reports of a bust-up between the two regarding who would be taking free kicks during their time at the Santiago Bernabeu .

However, Figo has shed light on the matter and he insists there was never any trouble between him or the Englishman.

"It was the press and media who invented these stories," Figo told Four Four Two magazine.

"Sometimes people just write things without knowing anything or what goes on inside the dressing room.

"I have always had a great relationship with David and it's still like this now as we live in the same city.

"We have always stayed in touch even though we have played for different teams."

The Milanese derby is set to be explosive as both the Nerazzurri and Milan are fighting it out for the Scudetto.
