I will fight back: Sheikh Hasina

Heathrow (London): Former Bangladeshi Prime Minster Sheikh Hasina was barred from flying from London to Dhaka after an arrest warrant was issued against her by a Dhaka court. Hasina remains defiant and says she will return.

A defiant Sheikh Hasina walked into London's Heathrow airport on Sunday afternoon to take the flight to Dhaka. This after a Dhaka court issued an arrest warrant against the former Prime Minister, who is facing a murder charge.

But instead of the boarding gate, she was shown the exit as British Airways declined to issue her a boarding pass after the advice of the present caretaker government in Bangladesh.

Sheikh Hasina said, “I want to go back and face the case and face the court but they are not allowing me to do so.”

The leader of the Awami League spent the last couple of days in London on her way back from the US.

In her absence the military backed government declared that her return could cause political instability.

Hasina is already facing charges of extortion and murder. But she says she will not give up.

“At this moment I am here but I will fight back. They have no right to stop me to go back to my country,” Hasina added.

Her supporters, meanwhile, want the British government to intervene.

Awami League supporter Shamsuddin Chaudhry said, “We hope that the UK government will take action because for the interest of democracy. “

A defiant but determined Sheikh Hasina arrived at terminal four but 45 minutes later returned when she wasn't allowed to leave the country.

She now faces an uncertain future. Will see what happens in the next few days.
