I will never return to politics, says Govinda

Thane: Bollywood actor and former MP Govinda, who returned to his acting career after a brief political stint, says politics was never his cup of tea. Speaking at the World Marathi Literary meet at Virar organised by local MLA Kshitij Thakur, the veteran actor said he never understood politics.

The people of Vasai were hopeful that he would return to politics after a sabbatical but the popular actor put an end to all the speculations.

"Politics was never in our blood and in our family...I will never return to it," he said, adding that he would never forget that Virar was his 'Karmabhoomi'.

The 48-year-old had joined the Congress and was elected as an MP for the Mumbai North Constituency of Maharashtra, in the Lok Sabha elections in 2004, after defeating Ram Naik of the BJP. In 2009, he took a break from politics to concentrate more on his films. His constituency was succeeded by Sanjay Nirupam.

Govinda has appeared in over 120 Hindi language films. He became popular worldwide as a Bollywood icon through comedy films such as 'Shola Aur Shabnam', 'Aankhen', 'Coolie No.1', 'Haseena Maan Jaayegi' and 'Partner'. His recent work includes Mani Ratnam's bilingual project 'Ravan'.
