New Delhi: Senior Supreme Court advocate Ram Jethmalani says there is nothing immoral about defending Manu Sharma, who is accused of murdering model Jessica Lall in April 1999.

The former law minister while speaking exclusively to Karan Thapar on Devil’s Advocate also said that he has not made any baseless accusations against Jessica Lall's character.

Karan Thapar: Jessica Lal is dead. She cannot defend herself, and yet you have no compunction in flinging baseless allegations to malign her character. Do you realise that you are damaging a woman who is innocent? Ram Jethmalani

Ram Jethmalani: In the first place, I have not made any accusations against her character. Certain allegation was made by a colleague of mine, who is supposed to...

Karan Thapar: You are repeating it, you are repeating it! As a criminal lawyer you have every right to use every trick in the book. I put to you a moral question: are there no standards you won't fall below?

Ram Jethmalani:First of all don't degrade the judicial system by calling it a trick. It's not a trick of advocacy. It is a fair argument presented in open court to the judges

Karan Thapar: I am asking you a simple question: Are there no standards that you set yourself, which you observe? Is there no Laxman Rekha, your own personal morality demands that you respect. Will you do anything? Will you fall to any level?

Ram Jethmalani: I won't do anything, but I'll do everything legitimate and honourable to defend my client, and that is precisely what I am doing, that's a matter between me and the court.

When Jethmalani was told that he had visited Tamarind Court, the restaurant where Jessica was murdered, several times and therefore personally knew that it was not a venue where illegal or immoral activities occurred, the Supreme Court lawyer denied the statement.

Karan Thapar: Let me point out something else. You have frequently visited Tamarind Court (TC). You have visited TC as a customer.

Ram Jethmalani: I have seen Tamarind Court.

Karan Thapar: You have been there.

Ram Jethmalani: I have seen Tamarind Court once.

Karan Thapar: Several times, you have been there.

Ram Jethmalani: No, I am sorry, no.

Karan Thapar: You have been seen by people in Tamarind Court

Ram Jethmalani: No, no, no!

Karan Thapar:You have been to Tamarind Court and even asked for drinks when drinks weren't available.

Ram Jethmalani: No, no. no!

Karan Thapar:Yes, yes, yes!

Ram Jethmalani: You are speaking falsehood; somebody has told you this and you are just trying to spread some muck.
