New Delhi: Lionel Messi has admitted that he would prefer Barcelona to beat Chelsea next week rather than Real Madrid in the league this weekend.
The Argentine was speaking after receiving the Marca legend award on Wednesday evening and also revealed that he does not mind what the result is at the Bernabeu, as long as his side win.
"I would prefer to beat Chelsea because if we lose against Madrid we will still be in front, whereas in the Champions League there is no room for error," he told Marca.
"The result does not matter, 0-1 or 0-2 is the same. What is important is the win. I hope to score but if I don't it doesn't matter."
Indeed, the last time Barcelona played at the Bernabeu they could not manage to beat their hosts and ended up losing 3-1.
Messi insists that his side will not be looking for revenge when they meet on Saturday but just to win.
"It is not about revenge, no. We want to win the game because it would be an important step towards the league title. What happened was that they were better than us and we did the guard of honour out of respect," he explained.
Finally, Messi responded to compliments from England coach Fabio Capello, who praised the Argentine in an interview recently.
"I always have gratitude for words from Capello, he has done very well. Listening to him with everything that he knows is good," he concluded.
