Hyderabad: An Indian Air Force (IAF) pilot and a trainee died in a plane crash in Hyderabad on Tuesday morning.

The IAF Kiran trainer plane crashed in the early hours within minutes of taking off from the Hakimpet airbase, about 25 km from Hyderabad, killing both the pilot and the trainee.

The two killed have been identified as Squadron Leader Bhagat and a trainee pilot S C Pathi.

However, police sources said their bodies could not be recovered, as they were totally burnt along with the aircraft.

The HAL made Kiran aircraft use for training of Air Force pilots, reportedly took off from the Hakimpet training academy around 0300 hrs on Tuesday and crashed shortly.

The plane was on a training sortie and there are no reports of damage to life or property on the ground.

Air Force personnel have cordoned off the entire area and were collecting remnants of both the aircraft and the pilots from the crash site.

The immediate cause of the mishap was not known, police said. But IAF officials suspect it was a technical snag which led to the crash and say a mistake on part of Bhagat is very bleak as he was very skillful.

Security Wing Commander J P S Chauhan has said that an inquiry would be conducted, the report of which is expected in a week.

This is the second mishap from the Hakimpet academy, the earlier one being about six years back.
