IAS aspirant suicide: Victim had contacted UPSC officials, says family

Bangalore: An IAS aspirant committed suicide in Bangalore on Friday, upset over a "mix-up" in the Civil Services Examinations results list. 24-year-old VY Manjunath was found hanging in an under-construction building near his residence in Madikeri.

His family claims Manjunath had even tried to rectify "goof-up" and contacted Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) officials seeking clarification. "My son was very upset and had tried to rectify the mistake but there was no help from any quarter. All we want now is justice," said Manjunath's father, YP Yadav Murthy.

According to the police, Manjunath was upset that despite securing the 264th rank, a different name was mentioned under his roll number on the results list. Manjunath, a resident of Shrirampura in the city, committed suicide by hanging himself in an under construction building on May 10 after he had left for his friend's house in Kodagu area, they said.
