Bhubaneswar: Priyabrata Patnaik, one of the most influential IAS officers in Orissa was summoned to the Bhubaneswar Police Commissioner's office for interrogation on the Biranchi murder case.
Priyabrata had come under the scanner after one of the accused, Chagala named the IAS officer as the mastermind behind the murder.
During the interrogation, Patnaik allegedly admitted he had sought the help of Biranchi Das to stop Raja from harassing Lesli.
Bhubaneswar Police Commissioner, Binoy Behera says, "He said that days before the murder, he, Biranchi and Raja had met at the judo hall to negotiate the matter regarding Lesli Tripathy. They met there for more than 40 minutes."
Priyabrata has known Biranchi for years. He was the President of the Orissa Judo Association, of which Biranchi was the general secretary. He also knew Lesli very well.
The accused, Chagala had claimed that the IAS officer had asked him to kill Biranchi because of disputes over funds raised by Budhia during his marathons. Patnaik however has rubbished all these allegations .
"Chagala is not my boss who will dictate terms. These are all false allegations. However I will continue to cooperate with the police in the interrogation," Patnaik said.
Meanwhile, the police too are not convinced that the motive behind the murder is Budhia's trust funds. To verify these allegations, Chagala will be subjected to a lie detector test soon.
