Errectile dysfunction, symptom of diabetes

New Delhi: Erectile dysfunction is usually considered an embarrassment, not a health issue. But on this week’s Doc Talks, Rosie King tells that this perception needs to be changed.

Rosie tells that it is very important to talk about sex. Men's sexual performance is very much connected to how they feel about themselves and it impacts their self confidence, self esteem and their overall outlook on life. In a recent survey it was found that one in two Indian men has problems with erection, known as erectile dysfunction.

While most men and women dismiss it as - oh it's because I am feeling tired – or he doesn't love me anymore. But the fact is that erectile dysfunction may be an indication that there is a problem with people’s body or mind.

In fact, for people above 40, erectile dysfunction can be an early symptom of Diabetes and heart disease. And for those younger than 40, stress and anxiety are the main reasons.

Unfortunately people do not seek help from a doctor. As a result underlying health problems go untreated. So the first step is to learn to talk it out with your partner and doctor.

And then, if it is a physical problem people should make the required lifestyle changes such as stopping smoking and losing weight and treat any underlying diseases such as high blood pressure or high cholesterol. And deal with those symptoms of stress and anxiety that are seeping into your personal life.

The good news is that safe, reliable and effective treatment is available so make sure men talk about their S-E-X problems with their doctors.

And, for people who are interested in watching the stars, they should meet Ajay Talwar.

He is an amateur astronomer. Talwar says that after someone built a telescope in his locality he wanted to build a bigger one. He found a lens and made a bigger one and gifted one to him.

Well actually, Talwar is an astro-photographer. He takes pictures of objects in the sky a hundred million light years away and calls it romancing the stars.

“You keep finding things, galaxies. They are so beautiful,’ says Talwar.

A decent telescope costs upwards of Rs 20,000 But, if that is too high, people can sign up on sites like these to join amateur astronomers, like Ajay, in watching the stars.

So those who want to join this quickly growing community, they can contact the Nehru planetarium or the Amateur Astronomer Association.
