New Delhi: It is double the size of the existing departure terminal and it is worth Rs 500 crore. The new swanky domestic departure terminal 1 D at the Delhi airport has the capacity to handle 3000 passengers per hour.

The terminal has 72 checks in counters, 16 self check in kiosks and 16 security channels.

And that's not all. Passengers will not have to stand in long queues to get the baggage security check. They have to walk straight up to a check in counter leave their luggage and let the four level in line screening system and the airline handle the rest for you.

But like all good things, it comes at a price. The aviation ministry plans to charge Rs 300 from domestic and Rs 1200 from international passengers as airport development fees

“Someone will have to pay for development,” says Praful Patel.

“If there is anything that would help improve public transport to the airport we can do, tell us. We will design something so that it looks better is more efficient,” says Shiela Dixit.

The airport authorities say they will now be able to handle 1crore passengers per year. However, to see how well the new terminal works we have to wait till March end when it becomes operational.
