Bangalore: The intake in the Indian Institute of Management (Bangalore) (IIM(B)) will witness a huge increase with the addition of nearly 70 per cent more seats in the next four years, Director Pankaj Chandra said on Thursday.

Talking to UNI, he said the capacity would be expanded to touch 1,500 from the present 910 students.

''This year itself we have been admitting 150 more students to various Post Graduate courses and the number will go on increasing year by year up to the next four years.''

The IIM(B) would focus on further popularising the PG programmes in entrepreneurship by offering many executive programmes.

''However, it does not mean there is no demand for other courses. All courses in IIM (B) are much sought after,'' he said.

As its campus in Singapore was not going to be set up now, IIM (B) was offering online courses for students from abroad.

''The MoU we have signed with Singapore Universities will undergo change. But it is yet to come before the Board of the Institute,'' he said.

To another question, he said though global recession had affected the recruitment drive from various companies, the institute had not done badly.

''We have not done that badly, though. The response from Banking and Financial companies are not to the extent as compared to previous years.

''But more companies in manufacturing, pharmaceutical and other industries are coming in to recruit students. The placement process began last week,'' he added.

Meanwhile, the fallout of the global recession has started affecting IIM students. They are struggling to get placed. IIM-Bangalore has extended its campus recruitment process till Tuesday after students couldn't get job offers.

The placements had started on February 27 they now say the process will continue till every student is placed. Last year the process was over in two and a half days.
