New Delhi: There will be no rollback in the IIM-Ahmedabad fee hike, it's Board of Governors decided in a meeting on Saturday.

A four-member review committee, led by RC Bhargava, had demanded a freeze in the hike, but IIM-A had turned down the suggestion on Friday. The final recommendation of no rollback of fee was made after studying all the IIMs.

IIM-A director Sameer Barua said, “We want to have a graded fee structure which allows us to give assistance to students from low income families. Now we are going to admit 17 OBC students who will be under Rs 2.5 lakh per annum income category, so the burden on the institute in terms of freeship and scholarship will increase. So we've decided to go with the decision on March 29th.”

The committee has been appointed by the Government and has been looking into the recent decision by IIMs to hike fee.

Meanwhile, IIM-A has said that 8 per cent of the OBC quota will be implemented this year. This means that number of seats to go up by 34 — 17 seats the general category and 17 seats for OBC category.

The list of the general category will be out by May 1 and for the OBC category, on May 15.
