Ahmedabad: Almost a fortnight after CPI-M Politburo member, Sitaram Yechury, delivered a lecture at IIM-Ahmedabad, six students of the institute have shown interest in doing their summer internship with the Left.
During the lecture Yechury said, "I don't know what will be the view of students; I can't really resume that. But one thing that we are familiar with is that a lot of people disagree with what we speak."
But the students might well have some other intention behind choosing to do their eight-week summer internship project with the CPM.
The Brazil-Russia-India-China (BRIC) agreement is taking shape, and these countries, which have a strong socialist presence, could determine market trends over the next few years.
And since the economic policies could well be influenced by Leftist leaders, these prospective CEOs are looking at understanding its ideology better.
"We talk about BRIC. These countries have predominant histories of socialist or communal regimes and they are expected to dominate over the next 25 years. Managers will have to appreciate the context in which these policies will be formed," Director OF IIM-A, Bakul Dholakia, said.
It will only be clear after January 5 whether the students actually take up the offer. But as of now, it appears that management students want to take a closer look at the Leftist mindset.
