Mumbai: The Indian Institutes of Management are looking to overhauling their selection procedure.
So far, IIM-Calcutta had a common group discussion and a personal interview for two of its flagship post-graduate programmes - the post-graduate diploma in management and the post-graduate diploma in computer-aided management.
But from this year onward, candidates will have to take a separate group discussion and interview. IIM-C believes this will help get more suitable candidates for the course.
It's not just the IIM-C which is taking the beaten path. IIM-A has plans to do away with the group discussion this year too. The institute believes this will help them select candidates who are “more spontaneous” in their responses.
Students often take coaching for the group discussion and therefore, the admission committee gets no new insight about them.
IIM-Bangalore, on the other hand, plans to play around with the weightage given to the interviews and the past academic record of the applicant. But the institute says it will take a call in November.
