Varanasi: In the battle for Uttar Pradesh, Congress General Secretary Rahul Gandhi replied to criticism that UP was only an election stop for him, saying that he was committed to transforming the state and wasn't obsessed with becoming the Prime Minister.

"All big netas of India are obsessed with becoming the Prime Minister. I don't have this obsession," Rahul said.

As campaigning for the first phase ended in Uttar Pradesh, Rahul Gandhi in a press conference described the campaign as his 'mission' and 'cause' and not an election.

"This is no longer an election for me. It is a cause, a cause to change the lives of the people of Uttar Pradesh. What's been happening for the last 22 years is a crime," Rahul said.

He said that he will stay the course and will continue to work in Uttar Pradesh.

Rahul also suggested that the Congress will ally with people and not parties. "I have to change UP. Our strategy is simple, we will have an alliance only with the people and not anyone else," he said.

Hittng out at the BSP and the SP, Rahul said, "My problem withMaya is that she has forgotten how to understand the pain of the people. I learn from political rivals and I have learnt from Maya and Mulayam. What I am saying now is that Mulayam, by promising electricity to every village, by promising foreign education to every villager, is not being honest to people."

Rahul claimed that the Congress will get 100 seats at least in the UP polls.

He also hit out at senior Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Lal Krishna Advani, saying that the veteran politicians commits mistakes by not listening to people when he goes on his rath yatra.

Reacting to the statements from the Congress leader, the BJP poked fun at him saying "it is very good that Rahul has come to a level that he has started addressing press conference".

Speaking with CNN-IBN national bureau chief Bhupendra Chaubey, BJP spokesperson Rajiv Pratap Rudy said that Rahul seemed incoherent on the political functioning and relied merely on paper work.
