New Delhi: CNN-IBN expose on low-cost airline Air Deccan fleecing passengers echoed in the corridors of power on Wednesday when Civil Aviation Minister Praful Patel assured a probe would be conducted.
After the channel submitted viewer feedbacks and complaints received on IBNLive.com to Patel, he said DGCA was already investigating the matter. Patel also said that if found guilty, strict action will be taken against the airline.
CNN-IBN showed how the airline was resorting to petty strategies like forging their passenger manifest to make fast buck leaving passengers stranded at the airports.
On January 29 this year, Air Deccan failed to report the exact number of passengers on board its flight DN 763 from Bangalore to Mumbai.
The CNN-IBN team posed as passengers and found that off-loading passengers seemed a part of Air Deccan's daily routine.
The airline on its part, welcomed the DGCA probe into the overbooking allegation.
In a press release, the airline has said that the recent reports were baseless and that Air Deccan was not involved in any overbooking scam.
Air Deccan's Chief Operating Officer Warwick Brady said, "We are glad that DGCA will be conducting an investigation into the matter. This is the only way in which we can prove ourselves right and emerge truthful."
