New Delhi: The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has made it compulsory for airlines to issue seat numbers to passengers, after CNN-IBN had exposed how Air Deccan overbooked flights and left passengers with confirmed tickets in the lurch.
According to the current regulation, Air Deccan passengers are not any given any seat numbers and they are to take seats they find to be vacant once they board the plane.
With the new DGCA directive, specific seats will be alloted to passengers and it will be indicated on the boarding pass.
As part of an investigation, CNN-IBN went undercover as passengers on February 27 and found that off-loading people seemed like a part of the Air Deccan manager's daily routine.
After the expose which had showed how the airline was bending the rules and fudging numbers to earn some extra bucks from unsuspecting passengers, Air Deccan had responded to the CNN-IBN by denying over booking.
