Mumbai: A month ago, a Muslim family in Mumbai's Andheri area were denied power and water connection by the housing society members, who objected to their religion.
After media reports and pressure from a society welfare association, the family has finally got these basic amenities.
“I am feeling good. We now have water and electricity. I feel satisfied,” says Mohammad Afzal.
A month ago when CNN-IBN visited the family, they was struggling without power and water connection as the housing society refused to give these amenities to them because they were Muslims. It was only after media intervention that the Afzals got what was their due.
“Two years ago, we complained but nothing was done about it. However, with media pressure, things worked out,” says Akhtar Afzal.
The family is yet to get a society membership, but for the Afzal's things are looking bright these days. The state's housing society association has a word of praise for the police.
"This is one case where we can say that the police has intervened and it has helped,” says Vice President, Maharashtra Societies welfare association, Vijay Samant.
