Impact: NHRC acts on AP sex racket

New Delhi: Following up an investigation done by CNN-IBN, which revealed the plight of young girls trapped in the sex racket in Andhra Pradesh, Director of National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) said the Commission will take a suo moto congnisance based on the report.

A Special Investigation had uncovered the racket in Rajahmundry district in the state, by meeting brokers, promising money and fixing deals for ‘delivery’ of girls

Young girls, it was discovered, are being sold for as little as Rs 12,000 in Rajahmundry and turned into sex slaves. And the people selling and forcing them into flesh trade are their parents.

Following the investigation, the Andhra Pradesh police busted the sex racket, arresting 12 persons involved in it and rescuing as many as seven girls.
