Patna: CNN-IBN had reported on how the mascot of UNICEF's anti-child labour campaign was working in a dhaba earlier this month.
Chuhiya, the mascot of UNICEF's anti-child labour campaign has the smile back on her face now.
The Bihar government has now announced measures to help Chuhiya and her family, days after the report.
“We are planning to help Chuhiya's family. We will help them in getting a job card and other facilities so that they can send her to school,” secretary, Welfare Department, Vijay Prakash.
Chuhiya's parents had accused UNICEF of not paying them for the photograph of their daughter who became the face of its anti-child labour campaign.
“They had taken her photograph for the child labour campaign but we got nothing in return. We are poor people,” says Baleshwar Das, Chuhiya’s father.
With the Bihar government now deciding to help Chuhiya and her family, Chuhiya can now go to school and realise her dreams.
However, there are still many children, who despite the ban on child labour, work to earn a living, hoping help will come their way one day.
