Beirut: On the 12th day of violence in West Asia, Israel conducted fresh strikes on the Lebanese capital, Beirut.
Even a Shiite religious centre comes under fire in the southern port city of Sedan.
Other parts of the country like eastern Bekaa and Tyre were also bombarded.
The United Nations emergency relief coordinator Jan Egeland arrived in Beirut with his team hours after the air strike.
Describing the situation horrific, Jan Egeland said "It's been over several days now. It's between half a million and one million people in desperate need of international assistance. There are wounded who do not get sufficient treatment. There are people who do not have safe drinking water. There are first and foremost, tens of thousands of people who are now being besieged or who are now being in areas which is crossfire really. Where it's a particular worry is for this part of Beirut and the southern part of the country,"
The UN has demanded a stop to the violence so that aid can reach these people.
So far, over 360 people have been killed in the ongoing clashes.
