In pics: Shock, protests follow N Korea's rocket launch

North Korea defiantly carried out a rocket launch on Sunday that the US, Japan and other nations suspect was a cover for a test of its long-range missile technology. North Korea went ahead with the launch despite mounting international pressure to cancel the liftoff which US President Barack Obama warned on Friday would be a "provocative" act.
