Bollywood turn to spirituality for peace

New Delhi: For long, India has been a heaven for spirituality seekers. And there is no dearth of Indian celebrities whose spiritual journey has been fodder for the media.

Many Bollywood stars like Sunil Shetty, Urmila Matondkar, Shilpa Shetty, Mallika Sherawat and Nisha Kothari are followers of Baba Ramdev, and were recently spotted at Ramdev's yoga camp in Mumbai.

So it isn't a big meaty role in a new film that Bollywood stars are aiming for instead it’s the liberation of body, mind and soul they wish to attain.

Actor Sunil Shetty says, " Peace of mind is very essential for a human being and wherever people find peace and find themselves they should opt for that medium of spirituality as some soul searching is great for a person."

Actress Shilpa Shetty is all praises for Baba Ramdev as she says, "I'm a follower of yoga and a follower of Baba Ramdev for the reason he was the one who got me focussed into practicing yoga."

It's a new blend of stars and spirituality, as it helps Shilpa stay in shape, and the yoga guru is sure that it's the secret behind Mallika Sherawat's beauty too.

"If she wants to improve her beauty, get a glow on her face and also remain young by practicing yoga, there is nothing wrong with that," says Ramdev.

Topping the list of starry spiritual seekers is the Bachchan family with their endless visits to temples & dargahs across the country.

It's now a regular public spectacle to see the Bachchan family visiting holy places whether in the middle of the night, during the day, barefoot, or with the entire extended family.

Another actor who is spiritual is Vivek Oberoi who is an Ayyappa devotee and is annually spotted at Sabarimala.

“When I became a devotee, in the beginning people used to ask me, how many years would I complete the yatra, and I'm going to give the same answer that I will be a faithful devotee till god wants me to be, and I will continue coming to Sabarimala,” says Vivek.

For Veteran Actress Heme Malini spirituality is deeply connected to her passion — classical dance as she says, "I'm very close to god when I am dancing, I feel he dances with me."

There are various ways of expressing one's spirituality believe Hema Malini and a her daughter. If the mother connects with god through classical dance, daughter Esha Deol has a tattoo of the religious Hindu chant — the gayatri mantra on her back.

As for the Shah Rukh and Salman Khan, both the actors are believed to be deeply spiritual without restricting themselves to any single religious belief. Where SRK has been spotted offering prayers to Hindu gods with his wife and kids, Salman has been seen offering a namaz and also praying to god Ganpati.

Now that's being truly spiritual.
