Lucknow: In a clear violation of safety norms laid down by the World Health Organisation (WHO), vital life saving vaccines have been found stored with vegetables in cold storage in government hospitals in Uttar Pradesh.
In Lucknow, vaccines for polio, rabies, and Japanese encephalitis are kept in cold storage along with vegetables.
This practice is in violation of the WHO norms that say that vaccines should be stored in deep freeze at specified temperatures and temperature levels should be monitored all day.
Sources say that the government hospital handed over the contract to store vaccines to unauthorized agency, which didn't had the required infrastructure and instead chose to store vital vaccines in cold storages along with vegetables.
