Include Tamil films in festival: WB Governor

Kolkata: West Bengal Governor M K Narayanan today asked Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee not to forget Tamil cinema amidst Bollywood and Hollywood at the ongoing Kolkata Film festival (KFF).

"The CM had yesterday spoken of Bollywood, Hollywood and Tollywood while inaugurating the film festival. But I want to also include Kollywood in this list," said Narayanan who studied in Chennai.

Tamil film industry is often referred to as Kollywood. In the presence of superstar Shah Rukh Khan, Banerjee had yesterday remarked, "This film festival is a tribute to Tollywood, Bollywood and also Hollywood".

The Governor said that the first step should be to renovate Metro cinema located in the heart of the city.

To promote Bengali films, the Governor said that the first step should be to renovate Metro cinema located in the heart of the city.

"The state government should also have its own art theatre to promote cultural activities in the city," he said after inaugurating a seven-day film festival being organised by Cine Central under the aegis of KFF.
