New Delhi: Children from Iraq have come to India. While some have congenital heart problems some have hearing disabilities. They are here for treatment at Delhi's Apollo Hospital.
Meet Rasul – he is like any other 10 month-old, unaware of his long journey from home. The Iraqi boy is in India for treatment of a tumor in the ear. With Rasul are Firaz and Yusuf who are here for open-heart surgeries.
It's a desperate move by these parents from Iraq where many hospitals are in shambles.
Firaz's father Hussain says, “There were no good hospitals in Iraq. Everything is very good here. I want to spend the rest of my life in Delhi.”
Apollo Hospital paediatric cardiologist Dr Vikas Kohli says, “These children have the same diseases that Indian children have. It's just that they donot get treatment in their nation. The faster they are treated the better it is.”
The parents say they were initially skeptical whether their visit would be fruitful. But the treatment they got at Delhi hospitals have made them very comfortable.
Some of the children do not know how fortunate they have been to be unable to hear the sounds of bombs back home.
Now the first sounds they heart are of each other’s laughter.
