India calling for Bhutan's new King

CNN-IBN

New Delhi: Bhutan's new King Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuk is in India.

The 27-year-old King is scheduled to hold talks with the Home minister and National Security Advisor on Wednesday.

During his visit, India and Bhutan will sign an upgraded Friendship Treaty which allows Bhutan more freedom in foreign policy and military purchases.

Thimphu will no longer be guided by India's advice in conducting its foreign policy. And it will be able to purchase non lethal military equipment without seeking prior approval from New Delhi.

But Bhutan will not be allowed any activity on its soil inimical to Indian interest.
