New Delhi: Pakistani individuals accused of terrorism could be hauled up before the International Criminal Court if the UN Security Council so recommends.
Sources say France and Britain could make such a recommendation if Pakistan continues to stonewall India on Lashkar chief Hafiz Sayeed and others.
This is one of the options being discussed as part of the global diplomatic offensive India is unleashing - an exercise that was reflected in Delhi as well where more than 100 Indian ambassadors are meeting at a conclave organised by the MEA .
Inevitably the focus was on Pakistan.
“We expect that Pakistan will fulfill their commitments. All our options are open,” said External Affairs Minister Pranab Mukherjee.
Pranab warned that ultimately India has to deal with this problem and that the response this time will be different from what it was at the time of Parliament attack.
Sources said the meeting is expected to seek feedback from Indian envoys to China and the Arab world, considered close to Pakistan. India has bilaterally approached China and the Arab states and the response has been good.
But the sources said India will judge the international community on the basis of actions and not words alone.
Meanwhile US Ambassador Mulford met Home Minister Chidambaram. Their talks focused on intelligence gathering, evidence sharing, US help in setting up the National Investigation Agency and in tracking down the suspects behind the Mumbai attack.
India's diplomatic offensive against Pakistan taking clear shape. In the days ahead expect Indian envoys across the world to pin Pakistan down on its duplicity on terrorism and at the same time India virtually putting on notice the international community that if it fails to act against Pakistan India will have to do the job.
