Mahendra Singh Dhoni led India to a historic win against world champions Australia in their own backyard at Gabba in Brisbane on Tuesday. The young Indian team backed by old warhorse Sachin Tendulkar won the second match of the best-of-three final of the CB Series to lift the trophy.

Meanwhile Australian wicketkeeper-batsman, Adam Gilchrist also bid farewell to international cricket on Tuesday, ending up on the losing side when India beat Australia in the tri-series finals in Brisbane. In an exclusive interview with CNN-IBN’s Nishant Arora, Gilchrist spoke highly of the new Indian outfit.

Nishant Arora: What do you have to say about the Indian team winning?

Adam Gilchrist: We have nothing to be a sad about. It has been a long farewell I guess since over a month ago that I announced my intention to retire. It was not planned or anything, we were just there readying for the finals, no doubt about that.

It has been a career and I have had great innings in my hometown in Perth and a couple of other good memories from the series. We were out playing so I can't complain.

Nishant Arora: Tell us something about the Indian side because it was a young side and not many people expected them to do so well, were you surprised by the kind of quality they offered over here?

Adam Gilchrist: They were a little bit unsettled initially. However, what they have gained is great experience in the series. And now it is a bit of a long-term plan and a bit of a vision for future and that has come to fruition early in regards to gaining that, and that winning feeling so it was very exciting for them.

I have spoken to them a few times and it is the right direction that they are heading in, well-led by Dhoni. They have that experience in Sachin and a few other players. And there are a lot of other young guys eager to go so there are very exciting times for them.
