Political leaders, intellectuals and artists in India kept silent when right-wing outfits targeted him, legendary painter MF Husain says "with deep pain" in his heart.
"I still love India. But India doesn't need me. I am saying this with deep pain in heart," Husain told in an interview.
Over the last ten years Husains art has created a huge furore. His work on Hindu gods and goddessess invited the wrath of the Sangh Parivaar. Many threats were issued against him and he moved away from India. The BJP is now asking him to return to India and cross the legal hurdle.
