New Delhi: The much awaited Indo-Pak Foreign Secretary meet is over. A bit tough and a bit understanding is what Pakistan looked like. But the success of this meet is still a debate.
Pakistan's foreign secretary Salman Bashir struck an undiplomatic note in reference to the three dossiers that India handed over to Pakistan, while addressing the press after talks with his Indian counterpart.
“As far as Hafiz Saeed is concerned we got a brief paper on this which was supposed to give us evidence about his activities. But the fact is that the paper was a piece of literature rather than evidence,” said Bashir.
However, apologies followed with Bashir promising a close look at India's three dossiers on terrorism suspects in Pakistan.
- One dossier on Illyas Kashmiri suspected of handling David Headley.
- Another dossier on the Indian Mujhaideen linked to the Pune and Delhi blasts.
- The third on Khalistani terrorists and those wanted for 26/11 attacks.
Meanwhile, Foreign Secretary Nirupama Rao said, “Pakistan should unearth full conspiracy behind 26/11. The Mumbai attack was a symptom of a larger problem that of the continued existence of Laksar-e-Toiba, JuD and Hizbul from Pakistan.
However, there was no comfort from Pakistan on Hafiz Saeed.
“Pakistan does not believe in cosmetic engagements. India cannot lecture us, demanding that we do this or that”, said Bashir.
In response, Rao said, "Acts of terrorism have hindered our talks. The recent Pune attack is yet another reminder that our citizens remain venerable to terror".
Rao hinted that she had been invited to visit Pakistan; however, there was no word from Salman Bashir on this but indications are of a return visit by Rao that could take place perhaps next month.
